As the clock struck midnight Tuesday – signaling the start of Election Day – both John McCain and Barack Obama couldn't help feeling sentimental.
Obama marked the occasion with a solemn stroll through his campaign plane before it carried him home to Chicago. The Democratic hopeful shook the hand of each of the five dozen journalists aboard, some of whom had traveled with him for all 21 months of his long campaign. (One photographer, who was celebrating her birthday, even got a kiss!)And when one in the entourage said, "Good luck," Obama simply shook his head. "It'll be fun," he replied, "fun to see how the story ends.

Everyone and their mutha wants to be part of the Barack Obama rally tonight –- including Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Diddy, and Ben Affleck.
But Obama wants this night to be all about him –- as it should –- so he's asking his celeb backers to stay away, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. "There really only needs to be one star in Grant Park," says a source, "and that's Barack." They want the celebs to focus on the inauguration in January –- if that's tonight's outcome, of course.
Naturally, Oprah Winfrey will be there tonight. Not even Obama tells O to go away.

Madelyn Dunham, Barack Obama's grandmother, has passed away after a bout with cancer. Madelyn Dunham, whose death was announced Monday on the eve of the U.S. presidential election, was the rock on which the Democrat built his life and his stunning political career.
Dunham, who died aged 86 in Obama's native Hawaii, had been in fragile health, suffering from osteoporosis and cancer. Her health had further deteriorated after she recently broke her hip.
Sensing her life was ebbing away, the Democratic nominee took the highly unusual step of leaving the White House trail to race to her bedside for a few hours in late October.
“She was the cornerstone of our family and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength and humility,” read a statement from Obama and his half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng. “Our debt to her is beyond measure.”

On Thursday, more than 84,000 people jammed into Invesco Field at Mile High stadium to hear Sen. Barack Obama accept his historic nomination.
Obama explained to a roaring crowd that we must decide between four more of the last eight years or a new direction aimed at ending the conflict in Iraq and easing economic insecurities of working families. “These challenges are not all of government’s making, but the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed policies of George W. Bush. . . . I say to the American people, to Democrats and Republicans and independents across this great land: Enough!”

Michelle Obama is the topic of discussion in Ebony Magazine’s September issue, due to hit stands on August 12th. Get a sneak peek of the exclusive interview:
On her style…
“I do think what you wear is a reflection of who you are. I love to look glamorous when there’s a wonderful, purposeful event that is appropriate. But when I’m in Iowa campaigning with the girls, I am in Gap shorts and a T- shirt.”
On being a mom…
“My first job in all honesty is going to continue to be mom-in-chief,” she says, “making sure that in this transition, which will be even more of a transition for the girls…that they are settled and that they know they will continue to be the center of our universe.”
On being married to Barack… “Barack and I—as partners, as friends and as lovers—we accessorize each other in many ways,” she said. “The best thing I love having on me is Barack on my arm and vice versa, whether it’s having him standing there smiling at me, or watching him mesmerize a crowd or talk to some seniors in a senior center.”

– The kids receive no birthday or Christmas presents from Mom and Dad, who spend “hundreds” on birthday slumber parties and, as Barack puts it, “want to teach some limits.”
Also featured on this week’s cover is the debut of former Pregnant Man’s baby girl, Susan Juliette.“She’s so precious, I just can’t stop staring at her,” Thomas Beatie tells People in his first interview since he and wife Nancy returned home. “Just holding her is the best feeling in the world.”

Sen. Barack Obama covers the June ‘08 issue of Rolling Stone magazine. Obama took the opportunity to once again denounce misogynistic rap lyrics while saying he respects rap as a form of artistic expression:I am troubled sometimes by the misogyny and materialism of a lot of rap lyrics but I think the genius of the art form has shifted the culture and helped to desegregate music.
It would be nice if I could have my daughters listen to their music without me worrying that they were getting bad images of themselves.
Rolling Stone endorsed Obama for president back in March. Read More (Click Now)
